Our mission is to provide quality, professional, relational indexes that will illuminate the author’s thesis and facilitate access to information for the reader. Our pledge is accurate, formatted indexes, delivered by the publisher or author’s deadline. We specialize in academic and scholarly indexing in history and other subjects in the humanities and social sciences. Other services include light to medium copyediting, local (San Francisco Bay Area) freelance research, and historical fact checking. We create indexes using Cindex software and send them to you in RTF format. Susan Storch, the proprietor of Illuminating Indexing, is an experienced archivist and records manager. In addition to technical training in indexing and copyediting, she has a master’s degree in history and experience working in academic, government, and nonprofit settings as a staff member and a freelance contractor. Please see Susan's CV for more information about her experience. In archival description, archivists take large bodies of information, often comprising one hundred or more cubic feet of records or manuscripts, and provide access points that enable researchers to locate the materials that they need. It is a fundamental goal of the archivist to provide access without imposing her own point of view on the descriptive terms and to respect the voice and context of the creator(s) of the papers. This experience provides a unique training in the interpretation of academic works to provide universal access to information through the index while respecting the thesis and voice of the author. Please send us an email with information about you and your project or ask a question about our services. Let us know the subject of the book to be indexed, its length, your deadline, and anything else you believe is important. This information will help us to determine if we can complete the index, editing project, or research completely and effectively by your deadline. Fees depend on the type of project and its length and deadline. We will respond by e-mail to your questions and comments or by phone if you prefer. Susan Storch Thursday, June 26, 2008 |
